Newbie Gamers Slang... *Note to Readers----I will add new terms whenever I feel like it... Action--Games like Frogger, The Army Men Series(which I Hate), and WDL: Thunder Tanks(which suck too) Adventure--games like Myst, Mega Man, and Shenmue AI--Artifical Intelligence, How the computer acts against other computer and human opponents. Board--games like Monopoly casual gamer--A common term used for gamers who like those crappy games like the Army Men Series, WDL, Batman Beyond, Cosmic Race, Barie Bikini Carwash(well I thought that was kinda cool myself), and Irritating Stick(that game is just so damn Irritating) CES--Consumer Eletronics Show, a place where people in the industry go to beg for free things and look at half nekkid women. CG--Computer Graphics cutscene--A portion of a game where players simply gowk at wonderful(GrandiaII or sometimes awful(i'm looking in your direction Orphen) looking CG's or FMV's that tell parts of the storyline. E3--Eletronic Entertainment Expo, another place to beg for free stuff, but more video game oriented. Fighting--Games like the Street Fighter Series, Soul Calibur, and King of Fighters Series. First party--Something made for a console by the console manufacturers. FMV--Full Motion Video, often used in CG's FPS--Frames Per Second, how many animation frames per a second. Also Means First Person Shooter. Games like Doom, Quake, and Goldeneye framerate--The frames of animation used to create the illusion of movement Hardcore--A gamer that plays Video Games 27/7, mostly known to play game genres like the field of RPG's, Strategy, FPS, and Fighting Games. ISP--Internet Service Provider LAN--Local Area Network, A connection of computers or Consoles within a small space that allows comunication for high speed network gaming and/or swaping music, video, and in some cases Porn(i'm lookin in your direction Taylor). minigame--a small game within a game. Most commly seen in RPG's an example would be the cool card game in FFIX (FFVIII card game sucked) motion-capture--The usage of human models and infrared cameras to record movement for game animation. Platform--Games like Super Mario Bros, Skull Monkeys,and Crash Bandicoot. pop-up--When onscreen objects suddenly appear. Puzzle--Games like Tetris Attack, Bust a Move, and Pokemon Puzzle League(tetris attack rip-off). Racing--Games like MSR, Wipeout, and Test Drive RPG--Role Playing Game, A game that involeds a hella lot of monster killing action, so your character will be awesome enough to defeat that main character....Some examples of an RPG would be the Final Fantasy Series, Lufia, Grandia, and Breath of Fire. Second party--An item made for a console by a company that is partly owned by the console manufacturer Shooter--Games like Slipheed, Gradius, and R-Type Sports--Games like NFL2K1, NBA2K1, and Tony Hawk Strategy--Games like C & C Series, Dune 2000, and The Age of Empires |
