Retro Gaming Flux #3 By: Keldon Warlord One true yearly ritual that I cherish just happens to be a wonderful collection of games. Game Brainers...Blaze Legacy Fans I present to you in this edition of Retro Gaming Flux..... Sure there were fighting games before this one, but this is one of the most defining series out there. Year end and year out SNK has brought this amasing series to our door step for us to enjoy. The King of Fighters was the first in the series so I decided to speak of this title alone. At the time this wonder came out to arcades and Neo Geo consoles everywhere, there where only two big fighting game series ruling the chicken coop (Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter). If you compare the options between the three games you can surly see the reason why I beleve that the King of Fighters series shines over MK and SF. For instance Super Street Fighter II Turbo featured 16 fighters, MK II only had 12, and KoF 94 featured 24 different characters. KoF also showcased plenty of new features such as four different ways to accomplish a killer finishing move. They are as follows Double K.O.(which is a tag team move), The three button method( where you hold down the A,B,C buttons then do your stuff), The gradual Method( exchange some hits with your enemy), and The last ditch effort( when your life meter is flashing red you can do the move). Oh also probally my favorite feature first put in fighting games was showed on KoF 94 the Duck option. If you hate those guys that always like to shoot fireballs up your yang and those dragon blast fruits all you have to do is press A and B together! I love that feature the best!!! Well since i decided to write about this game, I dragged out my old Neo Geo system and went through some boxes and got out this beauty and gave it a run for its money. I played it for about two hours and I must say, I STILL love that game! If it was 94 and this game just came out i'd give it a ten. But of course age took its toll and compared to todays competiton i think it held up well but the slowdown is very noticable so i'd have to say King of Fighters 94 for the Neo*Geo gets an 8 outta 10.....what else can I say...Mai!! Me Bouncy!!!!...haha |
System: Neo Geo Publisher : SNK Genre : FIghting Sales Date : 1994 Remarks : The first in the series of a great set of games and opened the path way for many others like it!
