Column #4 Hello once again GameBrainers its me again. I got alot to discuss so i'm steping right into the do and start dancing.... Xbox will play Dreamcast games !?!, that is what the latest word is around the internet...Its not offical but I have sources that are humming the possiblity of this rumor to be true by the time the Tokyo Game Show arrives. All i'm saying is expect Mr. Bill himself to jump on stage(sirly hair cut and all) and drop this bomb on the minds of hardcore gamers everywhere... I don't think of anyone is sure of this statement yet except Sega and Mircosoft, and to be honest i'm not sure. Supporting its claim, Gamers.com notes previous stories that "an incredibly huge" games developer will announce its support for Xbox at TGS and how Gates said at the Consumer Electronic Show earlier this month that some "state of the art" chips have yet to be incorporated into the Xbox. The Sega connection is being inferred because of this week's hints coming out of Japan that the company plans to develop software for Xbox(and I also beleve this will be fact by TGS). Let's assume that the rumors are true - and there's no reason why it shouldn't, hum....where would this leave hum say Sony....haha who cares..! As for Gates' comments, these
surely refer to Nvidia's technology. Its Media
Communications Processor (MCP), to be included in Xbox,
which is defainatly more "state of the art"
than Dreamcast's components, at least as far as a Bill
Gates marketing speech goes. But I think were all wondering now is why Microsoft would want to include Dreamcast compatibility? Could it be to have an Excellent starting point in the software range..yes, could it be to attract all the Dreamcast users that where left in the dust because of a stupid move by Sega..I can see that..but I beleve it may have something to do with a little subject thats been in the news alot that concerns the government and Microsoft(i think you know what i'm getting at) but who cares I expect nothing but the best from Microsoft now... But where does that Leave the Dreamcast users base hum..I'm sure you noticed that little sticker on the Front right of everyones 128-bit wonder...hum...could it be...Sega and Microsoft planned this all along...hum...HELL YEAH!! If you give a long hard thought as (I have on this subject to whom Microsoft could market Xbox as the successor to their(Sega and Microsoft together) current console. Dreamcast may be a minority platform, but it does have a large number of users out there. Getting them on board over time would certainly drive up Xbox's own user figures. However, it seems unlikely that Microsoft would want the expense of adding any excess components to Xbox simply on the hope that existing Dreamcast users may migrate. But a thought pops in my head that concerns the fact that Sega did sell its technology to a dvd manufacuer, so why not sell it too Microsoft too. Afterall Sega and Microsoft have done plenty of business in the past and they have an excellent relationship together. So this would make perfect sense to me if this happened. But a major flaw of this happening would be in the form of political antics. Mr. Bill has gone on record as to say that the X-Box could beat any rival under there own power and through the power of the thrid party development scene.... But whos to say that the X-Box will have the DC chip technology in it at all? Lets think along the lines of the possiblity of Microsoft just producing a software form of emulation. That would actually sound more likely if you ask me. I just hope this happens in one form or an other. Okay Okay i'll drop more more thought on your head then you may leave.... The Tokyo Game Show is lingering and there some big companies set to make some major annoucements. In the middle of this mixup is a little company called Nintendo. I have gotten word of yet another GBA Mario game! The new mario game will be based off of Super Mario World which was released on the SNES. It is simply titled "Super Mario Advanced 2". There aren't much info on this title just yet but expect the offical word from the big N soon. Well I guess that does it for me. I got to get back to playing The Sega Smash Pack Vol 1(by the way i'm writing a review for), and watching the Lone Gunman...that show rocks!....with all that said and done ...i'm outta here! |
